Along with business leaders from more than 100 countries, MAPFRE recognizes that peace, justice and strong institutions are beneficial to the long-term viability of our organizations.
MAPFRE’s Chairman and CEO recently demonstrated his support for the United Nations and inclusive multilateralism by signing an ambitious Statement for renewed global cooperation, a milestone that coincides with the 75th anniversary of the UN and through which he commits to demonstrating ethical leadership, implementing inclusive strategies based on the values of the 2030 Agenda and working in partnership with governments, businesses and civil society in order to contribute to a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable world.
The Statement was signed by more than 1,000 senior representatives of companies from more than 100 countries, all of which are members of the UN Global Compact — the world’s largest business sustainability initiative.
The Statement establishes that: “We, the business peoples, recognize that peace, justice and strong institutions are beneficial to the long-term viability of our organizations and are foundational for upholding the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).” It goes on to say that “Now is our opportunity to learn from our collective experiences to realign behind the mission of the UN and steer our world onto a more equitable, inclusive and sustainable path. We are in this together — and we are united in the business of a better world.”
The manifesto of support, including the full list of signatory CEOs, was presented to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, on Monday, September 21, during the opening of the UN Private Sector Forum—a parallel event to the high-level meeting of the General Assembly to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the United Nations—that is being held in New York from September 21 to 23 with the aim of addressing the world’s biggest issues, such as climate change, sustainable development and human rights.
