MAPFRE MALTA plant trees at University of Malta
- Initiative part of MAPFRE volunteer day around the world
Employees of MAPFRE Middlesea and MAPFRE MSV Life planted a number of trees at Wied Għollieqa Nature Reserve at the University of Malta. This initiative was part of MAPFRE’s first corporate volunteer day, in which 24 countries wherein MAPFRE operates took part in various volunteering activities related to the environment.
The MAPFRE Global Volunteer Day, held on 7th October, under the theme “ All together for the environment”, and around the world had employees of MAPFRE companies taking on different tasks – such as cleaning rivers and beaches, planting trees and maintaining parks and trails.
In Malta, the event was held in collaboration with Nature Trust Malta. Nature Trust President Vincent Attard thanked the MAPFRE Group for its initiative, while stressing on the importance of afforestation and the benefits of planting trees for the quality of the air which surrounds us.
“Apart from the fact that Corporate Volunteering is in line with the Group’s Strategy, it also motivates employees to give something back to the community,” Felipe Navarro, President and CEO of MAPFRE Middlesea said. Mr Navarro also participated in the event.
Around the globe, over 1,000 volunteers participated in 50 different activities, held in collaboration with various environmental entities. In Brazil, volunteers built a vertical garden in a school, planting a number of produce which can be consumed by the school children. In Spain, volunteers planted a number of trees, cleaned reservoirs and collected garbage.
