Employees of MAPFRE Malta spent time volunteering at the Malta Horse Sanctuary
On Friday 17 March, a number of employees from MAPFRE Middlesea and MAPFRE MSV spent some time volunteering at the Malta Horse Sanctuary.
The event formed part of MAPFRE’s Volunteering Programme, through which employees of MAPFRE around the world get the chance to help out in the community. This programme serves to improve relationships, foster teamwork and ensures greater integration within the company. In 2015, 4,403 volunteers took part in one of the 766 acts of solidarity, which had a total number of 541,708 direct beneficiaries.
“Working with animals, taking care of them was a great and relaxing experience! There is a lot of things to do at Horse Sanctuary and we experienced nature’s power and we embodied the true spirit of community: “Yes, we can” and for sure we felt much better after this volunteer activity. At the end of the day, one of the greatest gifts you can give is absolutely your time,” Ines Silva, MAPFRE Middlesea’s Chief Officer Human Resources said.
The Malta Horse Sanctuary in Siggiewi provides shelter for a number of unwanted or injured horses. Our work is funded solely by donations and is run by volunteers. The Sanctuary depends on donation to care for the 16 horses and maintain the premises. It is estimated that each horse costs €300 to care for. Some horses are lucky and are rehomed, others stay at the sanctuary for the rest of their lives, because they require constant care.
Those interested are welcome to contact the Horse Sanctuary to volunteer or learn more. Birthday parties and outings can also be catered for against a small donation.
