New appointments at MAPFRE Malta to take effect from 1st January 2025

Javier Moreno is stepping down from his executive role as MAPFRE Middlesea President and CEO to assume the role of Regional CEO for EMEA

From 1st January, he will be replaced by Etienne Sciberras, current CEO of the Life subsidiary MAPFRE MSV Life. Etienne holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and is a warranted Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Following his new appointment, Etienne commented, “I  would like to thank Javier for his sterling work at MAPFRE Malta over the past four years and wish him further success in his new role, while also expressing my gratitude to the Board of Directors for their confidence and trust. Together with the Board, the management team and our employees, I am confident that MAPFRE Middlesea will continue Javier’s legacy to strengthen our customer value proposition and be the driver of positive change within the non- life insurance market in Malta. Etienne’s  current responsibilities at MAPFRE MSV Life will be assumed by the new CEO  Elvira López de Lara, currently Group Head of Distribution Channels in the Corporate Business Area in Spain.

Elvira has a Degree in Business Administration and Management. She was selected by INESE and AJPS for 40 under 40 Insurance, as one of the Top 40 performers in the Insurance sector in Spain. Her main skills are Strategy, Innovation, Teamwork and Goal oriented. She has held various positions at MAPFRE Group level for the last 15 years with her most recent position being that of Group Head of Distribution Channels. Elvira is known to be personally driven and commercially minded and will undoubtedly bring those skills to Malta to further assist in growing and developing the local business.

Ines Silva, after 8 years of intense and professional work, and direct contribution to the development of the culture, work environment, talent and organizational transformation of MAPFRE Malta will be assuming strategic responsibilities at Group level being appointed as Chief Culture – Corporate People and Organisation area.

Loredana Mallia will be appointed as the new  HR Chief Officer of MAPFRE Malta . She is a seasoned HR professional with more than 20 years’ experience in the HR field and in the corporate world.

As part of the evolution of the IT function, a new operating model is being implemented and Emilio Martin shall be appointed as Chief Information Officer of MAPFRE Malta, replacing Luciano Anastasi.

These appointments are subject to approval by local governing bodies and subsequent approval by the Regulatory Authority, as necessary.

The Board of Directors thanked Javier Moreno, Ines Silva and Luciano Anastasi for their  commitment and dedication over the past years and welcomed the newly appointed executives Etienne Sciberras, Loredana Mallia and Emilio Martin wishing them a successful future with the company.
