MAPFRE MSV Life, a company with its Head office in Floriana, welcomes its involvement in fundraising efforts for the reconstruction of the historically significant St. Publius Triumphal Arch. The Arch, a revered emblem of Maltese heritage, suffered irreparable damage due to arson in 2019. In alignment with its commitment to community welfare and historical preservation, MAPFRE MSV Life has made a donation to support the reconstruction project.
During a presentation, MAPFRE MSV Life CEO Etienne Sciberras presented the donation to Floriana Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Charles Cini, accompanied by fundraising officer Julian Holland. Speaking on behalf of the company, Etienne Sciberras expressed, “We are honoured to contribute to the reconstruction of the St. Publius Triumphal Arch, a revered part of Floriana’s cultural legacy. This endeavour holds particular significance as it coincides with MAPFRE MSV Life’s 30th Anniversary.”
As a token of appreciation, Fr Cini presented a painting of the Arch by artist Mark Schembri. The painting is a limited edition of 1 out of 20 which was commissioned for the occasion and he expressed his gratitude to MAPFRE MSV Life for the donation which will aid them to complete the reconstruction.
The St. Publius Triumphal Arch holds a distinguished place in Maltese history, erected for the first time during the feast week of St. Publius in 1899. Despite enduring significant damage from a storm in 1905 and the challenges of World War II, the Arch remained a testament to resilience and endurance. Following its rediscovery in 1974 and subsequent restoration in 1999, it stood as a symbol of perseverance until its unfortunate destruction in 2019.
In collaboration with the Government, the Archbishop’s Curia, and other local businesses, the reconstruction project commenced in 2020, with a targeted completion date set for late 2024. MAPFRE MSV Life’s contribution underscores its dedication to preserving Maltese heritage and supporting community initiatives.
MAPFRE MSV Life extends its gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the reconstruction efforts and reaffirms its commitment to corporate social responsibility. As the reconstruction progresses, the company remains committed to playing a constructive role in safeguarding Malta’s cultural legacy.
