MAPFRE, in collaboration with the University of Malta’s Department of Insurance and Risk Management, successfully held its annual conference on November 12, 2024. This year’s theme, “Ensuring a Sustainable Healthcare System,” attracted professionals from the healthcare, insurance, and health sciences sectors to discuss critical issues and solutions for achieving a resilient and sustainable healthcare system.
The event counted with the participation of distinguished key speakers and panellists, including Health Minister Hon Dr. Jo Etienne Abela, CEOs of private hospitals, St James and Da Vinci, representatives of Mater Dei Hospital, MFSA the insurance regulator and also two speakers from MAPFRE Group.. The discussions highlighted several challenges and opportunities within the healthcare sector: Challenges and Opportunities, Interdependence of sectors which requires close collaboration and alignment with the aim to optimize resources to meet growing needs.
The conference addressed global challenges in sustainable healthcare primarily the rising costs and advances in medical services and Resource limitations in a small island setting. Emphasis was placed on the Boundary-less Healthcare System Concept aimed at enhancing resilience and sustainability.
Future Vision for Healthcare
The conference also outlined a future vision for healthcare, emphasizing the need for:
- An integrated multi-sectoral system
- Collaboration between public and private sectors
- Investment in digital health infrastructure
Expected outcomes from these initiatives include improved patient care, cost savings, and the development of more sustainable and resilient healthcare systems.
