A new edition of the Fundación MAPFRE Social Outreach Awards has taken place this year. These awards honor the individuals and institutions who have undertaken outstanding scientific, cultural, and social actions for the benefit of society. Carolina Herrera was awarded with the José Manuel Martínez Martínez Lifetime Achievement Award.
The jury has sought to acknowledge the professional and personal path of Carolina Herrera (Caracas, 1939), a world-renowned businesswoman and fashion designer, who founded her own label in 1981, at the age of 42. Her brand, encompassing fashion, accessories, fragrances, and makeup, is one of the top luxury brands worldwide, with a presence in over 140 countries.
The Carolina Herrera brand has collaborated and continues to collaborate with institutions dedicated to the fight against malnutrition or cancer, like Fundación Aladina, and those that promote child welfare and women’s empowerment, mainly through training.
Her activities include her tireless support for the battle against breast cancer and its prevention, as well as her commitment to women’s development, fields in which she has collaborated with various associations in Spain. As a response to the pandemic, and in collaboration with the Red Cross and Red Crescent, she created the Carolina Herrera Heart for Hope initiative, raising 7 million dollars to supply medical material and psychological support to affected communities in countries all over the world.
